Discount rules

Create, edit, pause and delete the offers students get, and what each setting does in your provider.

A rule is one product and one offer. Each rule has its own link, and each student who verifies on it gets their own single-use code.

Create a rule

Open Discount rules → New rule. You need a connected provider first.

For subscriptions, how many billing periods the discount applies to.
Default: 12 months
Checkout URL
https:// link
Optional. Where the student goes to pay, with the code applied for them. Leave it empty to show the code only.

When you save, the panel shows the rule's link with a copy button.

For one-off purchases, any duration simply means the discount applies to that purchase.

Checkout URL

The student's code is added to your link so it is applied at checkout:

ProviderWhat to pasteWhat we add
StripeA Payment Link with promotion codes allowed?prefilled_promo_code=CODE
PolarA Checkout Link?discount_code=CODE
Dodo PaymentsWhere to send the student after they pay (labelled Return URL)We create a checkout session with the code applied, and send them there

If the code is not applied for some reason, the page tells the student to paste it into the discount field.

Edit a rule

Click the product name or the pencil icon. You can change the discount, duration and checkout URL.

  • Changes apply to codes created from now on. Codes students already have keep the terms they were created with, and the dashboard, the API and webhooks keep reporting those original terms for them.
  • The provider and product cannot change. For a different product, create a new rule.

Turn a rule off

Use the switch in the rules table. While a rule is off:

  • Its link shows "This offer is not available".
  • If it is the rule set for API links, creating a link returns 409 discount_off until you turn it back on or change the setting.

Codes students already have keep working in your provider.

Delete a rule

Click the trash icon and confirm. The rule disappears from your rules table and its link, and any unused API links that give its discount, show "This offer is not available". A student who was midway through verifying on it cannot finish.

What stays:

  • Every verification for the rule, with the student, the code and the terms it was created with, in Verifications and through the API. The rule shows as "(deleted)" in the Verifications filter.
  • Codes already created in your provider. They keep working until they are used or expire.

If the deleted rule was the one set for API links, API links become verification only. Deleting cannot be undone; to pause an offer, turn the rule off instead.

Repeat students

If a student verifies again on the same rule while their earlier code is still valid (within 7 days), RamenID asks your provider whether that code is still unused:

  • Unused: they get the same code back. This does not use a discount code from your plan.
  • Already used, deactivated or deleted in your provider, or the provider cannot be reached: they get a new code, which counts like any other.

Different rules give the same student separate codes.
