The student experience
What students see on your pages, step by step, and the limits that keep the flow safe.
Every page shows your logo, name, description and website at the top, and "Verified by RamenID" at the bottom. Pages are not indexed by search engines.
Step by step
The offer
On a rule link the student sees, for example, 40% off Notebook Pro, how long it lasts, and a progress bar: School email, Code, Discount. On your workspace page they see Confirm you are a student instead.
School email
They enter their school email. On an API link it is already filled in and cannot be changed.
Some details:
- Plus addressing is removed:
ana+notes@mit.eduis treated as, and emailed at,ana@mit.edu. - Subdomains count:
cs.mit.eduis recognised becausemit.eduis.
The 6-digit code
We email a code with the subject "123456 is your RamenID verification code". It expires in 10 minutes. The page fills in as they type and submits on the sixth digit. They can ask for a new code after 30 seconds.
The result
- With a discount: the code in large type with a copy button, when it expires, and an Open checkout link if the rule has a checkout URL. It opens checkout in a new tab with the code applied, so the code stays on screen.
- Verification only: "You are verified". If you set a redirect URL, they are sent there automatically after a moment.
Which schools are recognised
RamenID checks the email's domain against a list of over 26,000 school and university email domains, based on the open source JetBrains swot list, plus addresses ending in .edu, .ac.uk, .edu.au, .ac.in or .edu.in. Domains on swot's list of abused or excluded domains are always refused, even if they would otherwise match.
If a school is missing, the student sees "We could not recognise that school. Use your official university email." Email us the domain and we will review it.

If creating the code fails
If the student verified but the code could not be created (a provider problem, or your discount codes for the period ran out), the page shows the reason and a Try again button. They do not need a new email code: once verified, they stay verified for that attempt.
